Hi everyone, I can’t believe that January is almost over. So far this has been…
Playtime
Wild about my garden
Over the past few months I’ve spent quite a bit of time with our grandkids. Often I get invited to play ,sometimes I join in and sometimes I’m busy making the next meal! But does that really matter? Who cares if we eat toasted sandwiches again?
Why do adults stop playing?
Mr G defines “play – engage in activity for enjoyment and recreation rather than a serious or practical purpose.”
Serious and practical purposes….hmmmm. Life is too short to miss opportunities of having fun and especially, enjoying family and friends.
Today I should have been weeding the garden, which is big. I should have been finishing cutting the grass, which is half done. And I probably should have been doing some housework. But instead I spied my lovely flowers which are celebrating a final burst of colour before the frost gets them. I picked a big bunch, took some photos and headed to the studio. I got a big sheet of watercolour paper ready, turned on Spotify and began to play . No aim to produce a finished painting, I just splashed about with colour and watched the flowers appearing. Maybe I need to give myself a playday each week 🙂 What’s your idea of playing? I’d love to hear ….
Tomorrow is a Wai Knot painting morning at Monarco – please feel free to come along and sketch or paint, meeting at 103 Point Rd from 9.30 .
If you’re a member of WCNZ remember to get your entry in for the national exhibition to be held in the Marlborough in April – https://www.watercolournewzealand.nz/public/pages/events/splash/50_year_splash/?menu-id=splash-exhibitions
It’s great to have the exhibition in the South Island, let’s make sure that we all support it 🙂
I’d like to congratulate Alyson Howell who has just taken over the presidency of WCNZ , (especially as I’ve enjoyed her company at some of my workshops) .Alyson will make a great president with a very hardworking committee and I look forward to seeing what they’ve got planned.
I don’t think that I’ll be able to hold any workshops before spring, as I’m helping with the WCNZ exhibition as well as getting ready for my own later in the year, and we;’re heading back to Oz for another adventure. But I am available for private tutoring, so please get in touch if you’re going to be passing and I’ll see if I can help.
And if you pass you may catch me playing!
Enjoy autumn, Jan
